Khatia, Mukki and Sarhi are the three main entry gates described in the current Kanha Tiger Reserve tourism information. The right gate is a planning decision: match the authorised permit arrangement with your zone, stay and arrival route.
The reserve's official tourism matrix can change with operating rules and booking configuration. Treat the table above as a planning map, not a promise of availability or a substitute for the current permit result.
Khatia
Core + buffer planning base
Khatia matters because the current tourism matrix includes Khatia Gate in core-zone access and also lists Khatia as a buffer tourism zone. Keep the gate and the buffer zone concept separate when booking.
Mukki is a main core entry gate and is also the listed entry gate for Khapa buffer tourism. Your stay and route should be checked against the actual permit configuration.
Sarhi is a main core entry gate and the current reserve matrix lists it for Sijhora buffer tourism. Confirm the relevant tourism area before finalising accommodation and transfers.
The permit and current tourism configuration are the source of truth for the safari you can actually take. Do not assume that a hotel's nearest gate determines your zone.
2. Match your accommodation
For an early drive, reduce unnecessary transfers. Choose accommodation after understanding the gate and tourism area attached to your safari plan.
3. Match your arrival route
Arrival from Jabalpur, Nainpur, Gondia, Raipur, Bilaspur, Bhilai or Nagpur can lead to different practical itineraries. Build the route around the gate rather than adding a long transfer at the last minute.
4. Keep core and buffer separate
A gate can serve more than one tourism arrangement. Always distinguish the core sub-zone from a buffer tourism zone when comparing permits, stays and safari expectations.
